Intended Majors: Political Science; Economics
Minor: Hispanic Studies
Jack Starobin is a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania studying Political Science and Economics with a minor in Hispanic Studies. Jack joined the TTCSP in January 2021 as a Research Intern for the North America Team. He went on to serve as the North America Project Lead, leading the team to host a workshop on North American think tanks and policy advice for think tank staff and scholars in late June. As Research Coordinator, Jack now supervises the work of TTCSP research teams across a range of regions and areas of policy focus.
Jack has a strong interest in the way different forms of media shape and are shaped by political systems, in addition to his interests in public policy and social justice. His freshman year, Jack worked as a reporter for the Daily Pennsylvanian. The year prior, Jack interned at Disability Rights Maryland, Maryland’s federally mandated Protection and Advocacy agency working to advance the civil rights of Marylanders with disabilities. He wrote press releases, newsletter articles, content for DRM’s 2020 annual report, and social media posts. In the summers of 2018 and 2019, Jack interned at Partnership for Extraordinary Minds, a nonprofit working to improve the educational experiences and outcomes of students on the autism spectrum in Montgomery County, Maryland.
In the future, Jack wants to dive deeper into the influence of media platforms on public opinion and political behavior and continue to find interdisciplinary research through which he merges his interests in public policy and media. In his free time, Jack is an avid distance runner, as well as a reader and writer of poetry.
